Installing JVS on a Windows PC The JVS.zip file contains the CIGAL program and the Cortmap task software for clinical fMRI. CIGAL itself is a single executable C program (CIGAL.exe) and a library of associated control files. This version of CIGAL runs on all versions of Windows so far tested. Current documentation on CIGAL is on-line at: https://wiki.biac.duke.edu/jvs:cigal Cortmap is a suite of text and stiumuls files that use CIGAL to present fMRI behavioral tasks and record responses. Cortmap has a graphical user interface to provide simple menu-driven control of fMRI tasks. It comes with a repertoire of pre-defined tasks for mapping cortical language and motor areas. Most tasks last 4min and involve a simple alternating 15s block design (rest-active). For examples of how a task is specified look at the files: JVS\Cortmap\PARAMS\sent1pics15s.txt JVS\Cortmap\PARAMS\langpracPics15sAudio.txt This practice file mixes JPG images, WAV audio, and simple text stimuli. Most tasks use JPG images for presenting text to ensure consistency since text fonts can vary. For documentation on these realtime stimulus specification files see: https://wiki.biac.duke.edu/jvs:cigal:showplay:manual:chapter1:ppf All JVS software is distributed "as is" with no warranty and no promise of support. Installing JVS -------------- This package is designed to be installed in the folder: C:\Users\Public Put the JVS.zip file in Public and unzip it. I suggest you delete jvs.zip once installed. That should create: C:\Users\Public\JVS The JVS folder will have README.txt - this text file CIGAL - all the CIGAL program files Cortmap - all the fMRI files To start the fMRI software, use the shortcut file: C:\Users\Public\JVS\Cortmap\CIGAL fMRI.lnk The reason for installing JVS in Users\Public is so that it will be available to anyone who logs into this PC. If you install JVS anywhere other than C:\Users\Public you will need to change the properties of the "CIGAL fMRI" shortcut so that the Target points to your CIGAL.exe file and the "Start In" setting points to your Cortmap folder. The "CIGAL fMRI" shortcut can be copied anywhere (e.g. Desktop, Taskbar) and should still work. enjoy, Jim Voyvodic Aug 2023
